Hello music lovers of the world My Name is Jeremy Doane. I play Clarinet, and Bass Clarinet. I started playing when I was in fourth grade. All of the fourth graders went down to the band room. The band teacher had all the instruments out ready to demonstrate each one. She was going down the line playing each one. When she got to the clarinet I thought to myself that is the one I want to play. I noticed very quickly that I did not like the taste of a new reed but I got used to that soon enough. I loved playing the clarinet every chance I got I was practicing.

Two years later the kid who was playing the bass Clarinet, he was in sixth grade and was going to move on to the middle school and the band teacher needed to decided who wanted to play the bass clarinet and out of those people who would be a good choice. In the end she chose me. I was so excited. I have heard the instrument being played many times and thought it has such an awesome sound. Now I will be the one to produce that awesome sound.

The next big step I took was I joined my churches choir on clarinet and bass clarinet. I had been watching the current clarinet player. Then when she left I saw a trumpet player and thought they need the clarinet back. In seventh grade I joined the choir and since then my music talent has gotten better. I am able to sight read pieces that are given to me the day of the church service (not that they are hard pieces). When in high school it was a lot different. My school did not have very many good or great musicians but the few that really took music seriously were amazing. Making MMEA District 2 and All State first chair multiple years in a row. Also for D2 jazz and All State jazz.

I finally decided to audition for the District 2 instrumental festival my junior year I did not make it. But that summer I was one of 88 people that signed up to go to a music camp at the University of Southern Maine. That camp was awesome it really opened my eyes into music and how much you need to practice. Lots of the kids were so much better than me.

Then comes my senior year the best year so far. Over the past 4 years I have been in Jazz/Show band at school on Bari sax which I love Bari sax but I thought I do not mind playing sax now but I will stick to Clarinet in the future. So my senior year started off with yes I wanted to audition for MMEA District 2 festival again. I practiced so much more than the year before and it paid off. I got in with an 88 and was one of the las third clarinet players. I was glad because lots of people from camp were in my schools music district so we had fun.

Then after I graduated I went back to camp for the last time the summer of my senior year. It was awesome so many great new freshman were their lots of old returning friends that have been there before. The one thing I thought was so cool I was able to use the USM (College) contrabass clarinet. When it came time for the last or final concert at camp it was awesome I had so much fun during the week and I bet the rest of the campers were ready to show parents and friends what they had learned during the week. After the concert I started crying because it got to me the feeling and I realized, I will not be coming back to camp as a camper. I could come back as a volunteer or a visitor but that would not be the same. For two weeks after that whenever I thought of camp or someone mentioned camp I started crying it was one experience I did not want to stop having each year.

This is what got me to where I am now Playing in the Auburn Community Concert Band, and also in the Fanfare Concert Band

Two years later I am still in the Auburn Community Concert Band on Bass Clarinet and in the Fanfare Concert Band on Clarinet. I am finishing my second year at Communiy College and transfering to the University of Southern Maine for Classical Music Performance on Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, and I was told if all goes well I will be able to use their Contrabass Clarinet. At first when I did the audition for USM I did not know what to expect. Their is a written part, a performance part, and a vocal part. The written part consists of all the people that are auditioning in one room listening to someone at a piano playing a short five to ten measure song and we have to look at the paper were it is written and circle the wrong note, that happens a few times. Then we hear a chord and have to circle wich chord of 4 nots are being played. Next was one key sin=gnature question. The last part of the written portion was intervals and note identafing. We had to circle the right answer for what interval it was and also their were many questions of bass and treble cleff were you had one note in treble cleff and one in bass and ou hade to identify which note sounded higher or lower. Next was the performance part of the audition. It was simple I played Rose Clarinet Etude No1 and the Mozart Clarinet Concerto. The one thing I did not do that suprised me was they did not have me play any scales. The last part of the audition was the vocal part. In ths part they play a short song on the piano and I have t sing back what they played. I do not sing back the rythem on a single pitch I sing what they played matching the pitch as best I can. Then after a few of those they had me sing rythems which I was bad at but not to bad. The final part of the whole audition was they gave me sheet music and played the first note and just looking at the sheet music I had to sing the song as best as I could with only that first note. Then finally he gave me another piece of sheet music however this time he did not give me a starting note or point other than telling me it is in the key of C and the first note was F I was close to the F I was only two notes lower. I also forgot they did ask two key signature questions. Which were key of F and C. F if I remember right has one flat and C has no sharps and no flats. Then my audition was over. Two weeks later I got a letter saying I was into the school of music as a music minor. They put me in as a minor because they felt I was not quite ready and had the skills to be a music major yet. They feel I should come to the college for music minor classes and get a fell for the music program. Once they or I feel I am ready I can re audition and become a music major. While a music minor I will still be able to participate in the concert band just like any other non music major would and I will also be able to join the Clarinet Choir. The clarinet choir is sorta like a small chamber group made up of the musicians in your instrument section. I like the clarinet section because in the clarinet choir we can use Eb, Bb, A, Alto Clarinet, and Bass Clarinet. The Clarinet Professor is also in the group and he has a Bassett Horn in the key of F that is another clarinet we can use.

As of now I am getting a new clarinet I have just like many other clarinet players wanted a Buffet Clarinet for a while and am finally able to own my own. Right now I have gotten 3 Buffet R13s from a Buffet Clarinet Dealer out of Chicago who speaks with you and gets information on what sound you want and the music you will be playing and gets three buffet clarinets that fit the style. She sends them to you you pay for the price of shipping and the cost of one clarinet. You try them out and pick the one you want. I will be meeting with the clarinet professor to go over which clarinet has the best sound and is right for me and I will have my verry own clarinet.

Soon I will be at USM for the fall of 2015 hopfully getting much closser to my dream of becomming a professional clarinet player performing classical music with an orchestra someday.
